Finding suitable trainees is not easy. We are therefore all the more pleased that we have now been able to fill our “surgical mechanic” training position: Erik Köhler started at blache medical on September 1 – and after just a few weeks we can already say that this was a real stroke of luck. He has a knack for this exciting profession and fits perfectly into our team with his open and honest manner.
After leaving school with his secondary school leaving certificate, Erik definitely wanted to pursue a career that combined craftsmanship and creativity. “As a surgical mechanic, he’s just the right person for the job,” says Chief Operating Officer Marc Mundhenke. During his three-and-a-half-year apprenticeship, the 17-year-old learns to produce delicate instruments for surgical procedures or medical diagnostics on the basis of drawings. At blache medical, these are usually individually developed medical instruments for special customer requirements.
“I’ve already gained a lot of experience in my first few weeks here at the company. And I can say that the decision to train as a surgical mechanic at blache medical was exactly the right one,” emphasizes Erik Köhler. He will learn a great deal in the coming years: sketching the tool according to the technical specifications and special requirements, producing a model that is suitable for use and functional, testing it in practice and possibly optimizing it. “Filigree and detailed work are basic requirements,” explains Sven Blache, who is also proud that blache medical is allowed to provide training in this demanding craft.
At the end of the three and a half years, Erik will take his apprenticeship exam. But that’s not the end of the story: further training to become a master surgical mechanic is just one of several options. “In any case, I really enjoy working in this great team,” he says.
